Digital Astrophotography

Even a modest digital camera is capable of capturing images of the moon, stars and planets.
I used my Canon A95 camera to capture the images on this page.

Your camera must have a manual setting mode that allows you to increase the exposure time for an image to at least 15 seconds.

This is the manual "M" mode for a Canon A series camera.

Choose the smallest F number for your camera - here it is F4.0
This opens your lens to the maximum aperture.
If you can change the ISO, set it to the largest number possible.
Mount your camera on a tripod.
Point it at an area of the sky you are interested in.
Press the shutter.
